Course #1: “Fire Staff”
Fire Staff is built out of wood or metal varying on the performer’s preference, usually equipped with Kevlar which is what we call our “wicks” that we dip in fire fuel (paraffin) and lit it up. Fire staves are used for performances and usually a prefered method of learning the basics about Flow Arts, as it is an easy tool (commonly referred to as Fire Toys) to grasp the process and learn the movements and choreography.
Rotational Fire Staff:
Rotational Fire Staff Manipulation is a fire performance technique where the performers hands and fingers are used to manipulate the direction and movement of the fire staff. Take note that rotational fire staff is often limited with movements, however, it does provide the pupil with a necessary foundation in their flow arts journey, examples of this would be growing comfortable with the flame and less likelihood of accidents. The level of comfort you develop with your staff will ultimately benefit you in the long run especially for individuals who are hesitant or have a level of any pyrophobia.
What we Educate – Fire Staff:
We provide students with the beginner moves of staff to advanced. Starting off we usually begin with planes, which is the direction in which the staff travels e.g forwards, backwards, above and below. Once you have acquired the knowledge of how to use your planes effectively, we coach you into improving your wrist and finger mobility. We then start instructing you on the basic movements such as propeller, single-weaves, double-weaves and glory.

Course #2: “Fire Poi”
What is Fire Poi?
Poi is made up of either rope or chains, with handles to loop your hands or fingers through depending on the performers preference at the end of the chain there is our Kevlar (wick) attached which is dipped in fire fuel (paraffin) and then lit up, the weight of poi can vary depending on the performers size, gender and preference as well as the length.
Fire Poi:
Poi is a popular fire performance tool and is usually what “hooks” people into the beauty of flow arts with its history of creating geometric patterns while in use. Fire Poi manipulation focuses heavily on working with gravity and momentum, while this is a challenge to some, the reward of gaining such a skill greatly outweighs all of the challenges you may face. Poi is a very fluid tool to work with and has an ever-growing range of movements, skills and choreography. With poi the planes are very important and a necessity to know for all of the movements and skills you will learn. Additionally poi has proven to be beneficial for hand and eye-coordination too!
What we Educate – Fire Poi:
Starting off with poi it of course comes down to the basics, which is learning how to hold your poi correctly for your build and personal preference. Getting used to your planes, momentum and beginner moves such as forward-weaves, backward-weaves, hug-yourself and then followed by movements such as butterfly, backwards & forwards-butterfly, butterfly-punches, buzzsaw, windmills and so much more!
